Desktop idle loop

Desktop idle in Deskrawl: Idle ARPG means the game window is a resizable, draggable strip you park at the bottom of Windows while other apps stay in front. Patch 0.1.9 added that window behavior and Steam Cloud saves. Later patches added Life Skills auto-filter and auto-sell on the carriage, then Online Mode as the default character path after the 28 September 2026 launch hotfix. This page is the practical loop: where the strip sits, what keeps running unattended, and which systems you unlock so the cart does not stall. Pair it with Minions for the Rein spend and with Loot when the ground is legendary instead of junk.

Deskrawl desert or later-biome combat strip on the desktop

Resize, drag, and park the strip

Patch 0.1.9 is the window contract: the game can be resized and dragged so combat lives on the desktop instead of a full-screen takeover. Steam screenshots show a dark horizontal fight band with loot beams and a dense action bar along the bottom. That is the intended layout. Ultrawide cropping and “clicking the game pauses video sites” bugs were patched in 0.1.13f, which matters if you park the strip on a wide monitor beside a browser. 0.1.9 also added buybacks, so a misclick sell in town is not a permanent loss of the piece you meant to keep.

Steam Cloud save arrived in the same 0.1.9 drop. Cloud does not replace local backups; a later hotfix moved backup saves to a more secure folder after crash-during-save corruption. If you idle overnight, let the client sit in town periodically so auto-save can fire. The strip is the product, not a overlay widget: it is still the full ARPG, just scaled to live under your other windows. Buybacks from 0.1.9 recover a mistaken town sale before you leave the merchant.

Life Skills, the cart, and unattended drops

Life Skills landed in patch 0.1.10 specifically for carriage auto-filter and auto-sell. The Jack of All Trades achievement is to unlock every Life Skills node. You do not need a third-party loot filter: the first-party tree is the auto-vendor. Exact node names beyond those patch blurbs are not printed on Steam, so no skill grid is listed here. 0.1.12 bundled more Life Skills content with Ancient Legendary items, so the tree grew after the first auto-sell drop, not only on 18 June.

The cart is the bottleneck. Minions haul it; overloaded carts and revive-in-combat loot bugs were hotfix targets in 0.1.13a through 0.1.13e. If unattended runs stall, check cart capacity and whether a revive dumped duplicate piles. Auto-save while in town was added in 0.1.13e after revive-in-town save loss. Park the strip, keep a hauler unlocked, and let Life Skills sell junk so the ground does not fill faster than the cart.

Online Mode after launch

Patch 0.1.13 added Online characters, a Treant Boss clear-time leaderboard, and client anti-cheat. The 28 September 2026 hotfix then defaulted character creation to Online Mode and fixed connections for very old Steam clients, while still recommending a Steam update. A blinking yellow dot in the lower left marks server talk; during that wait the client may sit on a black screen rather than spawning you into a desynced fight. 0.1.13c claimed more regions could connect without a proxy and added resilience against disconnects.

Online Mode is the default path, not an optional extra, unless you still have an older offline character. Ban appeals sit on deskrawl.com, not in the Steam client. Discord is the feedback channel named in beta posts. If a connection error appears, read the detailed message the hotfix added before you assume the strip itself froze. Cloud save from 0.1.9 still applies; 0.1.13e added auto-save in town after revive-in-town save loss, so a parked strip should visit town rather than sitting on a corpse screen for hours.

A practical unattended run

Park order that matches the published systems: resize the window, pin it to the bottom or a second display, confirm a minion with a Rein is hauling, and unlock enough Life Skills nodes that the carriage auto-sells junk. Then walk the named ground you actually need for the next slay seal instead of idling in a finished woods node. Forest Raptor at 92.2% is the first hunt; later grounds on the Maps ledger are where unattended time is wasted if you never click travel.

Watch three failure modes named in hotfixes. Cart overload (0.1.13a) fills the ground while combat continues. Revive with no loot (0.1.13d) or duplicated loot after revive (0.1.13e) looks like a drop-rate bug and is a client bug. Clicking the game pausing video sites (0.1.13f) matters if the strip shares a machine with a stream. None of those are solved by a third-party overlay. If Online Mode cannot handshake, update Steam and read the launch-day connection text before you roll a second character.

Frequently asked questions

Can Deskrawl run while I use other Windows apps?

Yes. The store pitch and the 0.1.9 window patch exist so you can resize and drag the fight to the bottom of the desktop. Other apps stay in front. You still need the process running; this is not a separate overlay service. Ultrawide crop fixes in 0.1.13f help if that strip sits on a wide monitor.

What keeps loot moving if I am not clicking?

A captured minion unlocked with a Rein hauls the loot cart. Life Skills nodes auto-filter and auto-sell carriage contents. Without a hauler or with an overloaded cart, piles sit on the ground even if combat continues. 0.1.13a named cart overload as a hotfix for that stall.
